HEIC guide

HEIC to JPG on Mac

Choose the browser for a consistent batch workflow or Preview for a built-in one-file export.

Browser method: Open the HEIC converter, select photos in Finder, choose JPG and quality, convert, then download the individual results or ZIP.

Convert in the browser

  1. Wait for the decoder to load.
  2. Drag HEIC files from Finder or use the picker.
  3. Keep JPG selected and set quality.
  4. Convert the queue and download the results.

Convert with Preview

Open a single HEIC file in Preview, choose File, Export, select JPEG, set quality and save. Menu wording can vary by macOS version.

Which method is better?

QuickMerge is convenient for a batch and keeps the same workflow across devices. Preview is built in and works well for one file. Neither route should replace the source unless you deliberately save over it.

What can change

JPG uses lossy compression and may be larger than HEIC. Color appearance and metadata can differ after re-encoding. Compare important photographs before deleting an original.
